Job Overview

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad’s premier tertiary care and teaching hospital, is seeking a dedicated Medical Officer for its General Medicine Department. PIMS is one of Pakistan’s largest healthcare institutions, known for patient-centered treatment, advanced training, and evidence-based care.

Role Summary

As a Medical Officer, you will support the department’s mission to deliver safe and efficient healthcare. You will perform thorough assessments, diagnose a range of health conditions, and design effective treatment plans. Responsibilities include managing follow-up care for patients in both the Outpatient Department (OPD) and inpatient wards.

Under the supervision of senior consultants, you will assist in emergencies, join ward rounds, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care. This role demands strong clinical judgment, empathy, and effective communication. Key Responsibilities

• Perform patient evaluations in OPD and emergency units.
• Provide inpatient care, including exams and progress notes.
• Assist consultants during medical rounds and procedures.
• Monitor patient vitals and alert senior doctors to critical changes.
• Prescribe medications, order tests, and review results.
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
• Follow infection control and hospital safety standards.

Qualifications

• MBBS degree from a PMC-recognized medical college.
• Valid and verifiable PMC certification.
• Completed one-year house job (preferably in Medicine & Surgery).
• BLS/ACLS certification preferred.

Working Hours

• Rotational shifts: morning, evening, and night.
• Six days per week with one day off.
• On-call duties may be required as needed.

Required Skills

• Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
• Ability to stay focused under pressure, especially in emergencies.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) is an advantage.
